Hello everyone, again keeping to the format of previous newsletters:

Item 1: Things of Beauty
The Lone Pine descendant photographed by Helen Flynn in Victoria is one of the Things of Beauty Item for this newsletter. This tree is without dispute from a seed in a cone from the very Lone Pine itself.

The other is Kel's WA Saltwater Paperbark (Melaleuca cuticularis) Bonsai, just exquisite!

Item 2: The Curious Nature of the Cook Pine (Araucaria columnaris)
The running theme of these newsletters’ Item 2 has evolved into “different”, and this newsletter’s one — The Curious Nature of the Cook Pine (Araucaria columnaris) — is certainly that! It is also the Wollongong Botanic Garden feature for this newsletter.

Item 3: Plants of the Month Since Last Newsletter
Plant of the Month: July 2025
Chinese Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.)
Some still available for bare-rooted sending before all are potted up.

Plant of the Month: August 2025
Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum)
Herb Robert is a true geranium and these plants, which can be annual or biennial, are of an age that they should produce flowers and seeds this spring on. If you’re wanting this plant for its famed medicinal value, be assured that it self-seeds readily and you should never want for it again!
