Plant Description:
This member of the ginger family is both a culinary and medicinal plant as well as a striking ornamental.
Galangal is a clumping plant which can reach 2 m high. For reference, the two in the photo are a year old, with the smaller one about 900 mm high and the taller one just shy of 1200 mm tall.
Growing Information:
Galangal can be grown in a very large pot but is best in the ground. It will thrive in rich, moist soil in a shady and protected spot.
This species is an evergreen perennial native to the tropics. The browned leaves in the photo are perfectly normal for this plant in my temperate winter, and not a sign of disease or ill-health. These are last year’s older leaves, with the new spring growth coming through a beautiful glossy green.
Regular applications of fertiliser will help develop the fragrant and tasty rhizomes galangal is renowned for.

Especial Note Regarding Large Air-Pot® Orders
Depending on the order, we may suggest that large Air-Pot® orders are best sent directly to you from the warehouse.
Especial Note Regarding Jujube Trees
When posting out bare-rooted jujube trees, we routinely trim them to fit the box and keep postage costs to a minimum. These trees are typically knee-high when planted out, though some may be smaller.
This of course doesn’t apply for pick-ups, and in fact we will set aside the tallest trees specifically for this purpose. These trees can often be hip-high, and sometimes taller again.
Please note that this is not a guarantee, as heights of different cultivars can differ from year to year.
