Item Description:
The pigeon pea plant was grown from seed and is about 650 mm tall excluding the pot, and about 800 mm tall with the pot.

The dimensions of the bottomless pot are 90 mm square × 150 mm deep — I love these pots as the square shape and bottomless design produces beautifully straight and deep roots with no spiralling whatsoever. (I sell these brand-new if interested.)

I reuse and recycle pots whenever possible, and the pots the plants come in may show signs of this, but are otherwise in great condition.

Plant Description:
Pigeon pea is a perennial tree which grows to 2-3 m tall and wide. This is a very versatile plant. The peas can be eaten green when swelling in the pods, or wait for the pods to dry, to harvest as a dry pea like lentils.

The young pods, young leaves and shoots can also be eaten.

This tree makes a great windbreak and shelter when mature, and being a legume, also adds nitrogen to the soil via symbiotic bacteria.

Growing Information:
Pigeon pea is a fast-growing, drought-hardy evergreen perennial. It is frost-tender though.

The deep tap-root helps open up the soil, its symbiotic bacteria add nitrogen to the soil, and tree can be readily pruned to form a higher, spreading canopy so as to create space for shade-loving plants underneath.

This is a very hardy pest- and disease-free tree in my experience.
