As a child in the 50s we picniced along the Murray's wetlands. Before the snowy scheme. Before cotton fields. Before laser ploughed fields. Before salination. The wetlands of the Murray were SO MAGNIFICENT. Huge flocksof budgies, lizards, green snakes, wildflowers, huge river red gums. I was born 100metres from the river. I still have the images imprinted in my mind. The vibrancy, the life, yep now it's a gutter.
In most countries it is the same.

After working in Ag industry for most of my life I walked away 20 years ago, the lies that government and local officials, and Chemical companies, tell farmers that this is the only way they will survive this is a pack of lies , they sacked all the scientists that didn’t agree with them, it’s all about the money, to go to overseas companies

The EPA is crap. Back around 2017/18 I think it was, the Mandurah council wanted to do a cool burn Linville nature reserve in Falcon, WA, during spring (October) when the native plants were flowering and the birds and animals were breeding. I told the council to wait until April after the first rain so the plants would be dormant and the baby animals and birds would have left the area, or at least be big enough to get out, and so the place didn't go up in flames. The council told me they would guarantee a cool burn.I contacted the State Government and the EPA and told them what was going on. They didn't care. I mentioned there were endangered orchids on the reserve they planned to burn. The EPA said they had no record of endangered orchids or any endangered plants on the reserve or in the area. I asked when they last surveyed the area and they said they had never surveyed it. I sent them pictures of the plants and they didn't respond and didn't care. According to the orchid book I had, and the people at King's Park Botanic Gardens, there were endangered orchids there.
In October the council set fire to the bush and their cool fire had flames shooting up more than twice the height of the power poles. The council, SES, bush fire brigade and the Mandurah fire department were all there cheering and laughing at how high the flames were (in excess of 40 feet high). The fire burnt dozens of bird nests, destroyed all the big trees and everything that was there, including tree hollows with bats and possums living in. It was still charcoal 4 years later. The council claimed it was a big success and posted pictures of the flames in the local paper. They also claim the reserve looks perfect when you drive by. That's because the fire was in the middle of the reserve and the trees around the edge of the reserve weren't burnt. So from the outside it looks normal but when you walk into the reserve, there is nothing left. The same council also wiped out 90% of the birds down there by spraying Glyphosate on the parks and reserves where the birds lived and fed.
